The Real Cost of a Ransomware Attack on a South African SME
Beyond the ransom: recovery costs, compliance fines, reputational damage and operational paralysis. The total picture is far worse than most boards realise.
Every hour of downtime costs revenue, credibility and competitive ground. Naledzi Technologies protects, connects and scales South African organisations through virtualisation, cybersecurity, disaster recovery and HR management.
Trusted by South Africa's leading organisations
You are not alone. These are the four most common IT challenges destroying operational efficiency for South African organisations — and each has a proven solution.
Physical servers sit underutilised while you pay for power, cooling, space and maintenance — costs compounding year after year without proportional business value.
Ransomware, phishing and insider threats grow more sophisticated daily. A single breach can expose customer data, violate POPIA and cost millions in fines and reputational damage.
When systems go down — through load shedding, hardware failure or ransomware — revenue loss and operational paralysis accumulate faster than most organisations realise.
Manual HR processes and spreadsheet payroll expose your organisation to LRA violations and consume management time that should be focused entirely on growth.
All four problems have proven, scalable solutions — Naledzi Technologies has been implementing them for over a decade.
See How We Solve Them →When operational efficiency, management visibility and governance work together, organisations do not just run better — they scale faster and become structurally more competitive.
Infrastructure and automation eliminating downtime, reducing manual effort and keeping operations running at full capacity regardless of load shedding or external disruptions.
Tools giving leadership real-time visibility and control over people, assets and processes — enabling faster, better-informed decisions at every level.
Security, compliance and risk management protecting your data, ensuring regulatory adherence and giving executives the confidence to pursue growth boldly.
When all three pillars work in concert, operational friction disappears, management spends time on strategy instead of firefighting, and governance becomes an enabler rather than a bottleneck. This is the foundation that allows South African organisations to compete at any level.
Each solution is designed around the specific problems your organisation faces — not around what is easiest to sell.
Consolidate your infrastructure. Slash costs. Scale on demand.
Physical servers are expensive, underutilised and a single point of failure. IT provisioning takes weeks, limiting your ability to respond to business needs quickly.
Comprehensive protection before, during and after every threat.
Threats evolve faster than traditional defences adapt. A single breach exposes customer data, violates POPIA and can bring operations to a complete halt.
Stay operational when everyone else goes dark.
Load shedding, ransomware, hardware failure and human error give no advance notice. Without a tested recovery plan, your survival depends on luck.
Free your managers from admin. Protect yourself from compliance risk.
Manual HR processes consume management hours, create LRA and BCEA compliance exposure and make it impossible to have a real-time view of your workforce.
Our principles shape every solution we design, every recommendation we make and every client relationship we build.

Power, cooling, space, hardware refresh and IT hours maintaining legacy infrastructure — the hidden costs are staggering.
Most South African organisations think they have a backup. Few have tested whether it actually works. Here is how to know the difference.
In 45 minutes, Naledzi Technologies will review your current IT environment, identify your top 3 risks and give you a clear roadmap — with no obligation to proceed.
Takes 2 minutes. Our team will call you within 1 business day to confirm your appointment.
Join 50+ South African organisations that have transformed their operations, reduced costs and scaled with confidence — backed by Naledzi Technologies' decade of IT excellence.
We started Naledzi Technologies with a single belief: South African organisations deserve world-class IT — delivered with personal care, deep expertise and a genuine commitment to your success.
Too many South African organisations are paying for IT services that do not understand their context — the power instability, the regulatory landscape, the resource constraints and the growth ambitions. They receive generic solutions designed for global markets, implemented without the local nuance that makes the difference between a system that works and one that transforms.
Naledzi Technologies was founded to close that gap. We bring enterprise-grade technology partnerships with Cisco, Dell Technologies, Fortinet, VMware and Red Hat — combined with the agility, personalisation and contextual expertise of a team that understands South Africa.
Our beliefs are not marketing language — they are the commitments we make to every client, every engagement, every day.
Technology only truly works when three forces operate together.
Infrastructure and automation eliminating downtime and keeping operations running at full capacity regardless of external disruptions.
Tools giving leadership real-time visibility and control over people, assets and processes — enabling faster, better-informed decisions.
Security, compliance and risk management protecting your data, ensuring regulatory adherence and giving executives the confidence to pursue growth.
When all three pillars work in concert, operational friction disappears, management spends time on strategy instead of firefighting, and governance becomes an enabler rather than a bottleneck.

Physical server infrastructure is expensive, underutilised and fragile. Naledzi Technologies consolidates your IT environment into a powerful, scalable virtual platform — cutting costs by up to 70% and giving your business the agility it needs to grow.
When you add up hardware purchase, power consumption, cooling, physical space, maintenance contracts and IT hours managing legacy infrastructure — the true cost of running physical servers is staggering. And most South African organisations are running at 40–60% server utilisation, meaning they are paying full price for half the benefit.
Expensive hardware refresh cycles every 3–5 years. Single points of failure causing total downtime. IT team spending weeks on provisioning instead of innovation. No ability to scale quickly as the business grows.
Naledzi Technologies designs, implements and manages virtualised infrastructure environments that consolidate your physical servers, eliminate waste and give your IT team a platform that grows with your business.
Consolidate multiple physical servers into a single virtualised environment. Run 10 workloads on 1 server. Eliminate hardware sprawl and reduce your data centre footprint significantly.
Built-in failover and live migration capabilities mean workloads automatically shift to healthy hosts when hardware issues arise — keeping your business running without interruption.
Deploy new virtual machines and workloads in minutes instead of weeks. Give your business the IT agility to respond to new opportunities without waiting for hardware procurement.
Scale compute and storage resources up or down as your business demands change — without purchasing new hardware. Pay for what you use, not what you might need.
Manage your entire virtual infrastructure from a single pane of glass. Real-time visibility into resource utilisation, performance and capacity across your environment.
Virtualisation provides native snapshot and recovery capabilities — roll back any workload to a known good state in minutes. Your insurance policy against configuration errors and ransomware.
Naledzi Technologies is a certified partner of VMware (vSphere, vSAN, NSX), Red Hat (OpenShift, RHEL, Ansible) and Dell Technologies (PowerEdge servers, PowerStore). We bring enterprise-grade virtualisation platforms to South African organisations of every size.
"Their virtualisation solutions have optimised our operations and supported us without issues for over five years. Naledzi Technologies truly understands what operational continuity means for an organisation like ours."

577 cyberattacks hit South African organisations every single hour. A single breach can lock your systems, expose customer data and trigger POPIA fines of up to R10 million. Naledzi Technologies builds multi-layer security around your entire organisation — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Ransomware, phishing, insider threats and supply-chain attacks are growing in sophistication and frequency. South African organisations are targeted at a higher rate than the global average, yet most still operate without the security controls needed to detect, contain and recover from a modern cyberattack.
Ransomware encrypting all business data and demanding payment. POPIA breaches exposing customers to identity theft. Phishing attacks compromising email accounts and financial systems. Reputational damage that takes years to recover from.
Naledzi Technologies deploys a comprehensive, layered security architecture that protects every entry point to your organisation — from the perimeter firewall to the individual endpoint, and from email to cloud workloads.
Fortinet FortiGate and Cisco next-generation firewalls providing deep packet inspection, application control and intrusion prevention at the network perimeter.
Advanced endpoint detection and response (EDR) protecting every device on your network from malware, ransomware and zero-day exploits in real time.
Anti-phishing, anti-spam and sandboxing technology that stops malicious emails before they reach your staff — eliminating the most common attack vector.
Security controls extended to cloud workloads and SaaS applications, ensuring consistent protection across your hybrid environment.
Continuous monitoring and alerting of security events across your environment. Threats detected and contained before they cause damage.
Simulated phishing campaigns and security awareness training that transforms your staff from your biggest vulnerability into your strongest line of defence.
Naledzi Technologies aligns your security controls with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) — ensuring your data processing practices, access controls and incident response procedures meet South Africa's data protection requirements. We prepare your organisation for any regulatory audit.

Load shedding. Ransomware. Hardware failure. Flooding. Any one of these can bring your operations to a complete halt — at a cost of R50,000 or more per hour. Naledzi Technologies designs, implements and tests BCDR solutions that keep your business running through any disruption.
The uncomfortable truth is that most organisations have a backup but have never tested whether it actually works. And in South Africa's environment — with load shedding, extreme weather events and a rising ransomware threat — the probability of a serious disruption event is not low. It is certain. The only question is whether you are ready for it.
Load shedding causing server crashes and data corruption. Ransomware encrypting backups alongside live data. Hardware failure with no tested recovery path. Manual recovery processes taking days or weeks instead of hours.
Naledzi Technologies designs BCDR solutions that account for South Africa's unique operating environment — including Eskom's load shedding, the local ransomware threat landscape and the specific regulatory requirements of South African governance frameworks.
Identify your critical business processes and systems, quantify the cost of their disruption and establish the Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) that your business can tolerate.
Automated, encrypted backup with off-site replication to a secondary location. Incremental backups minimise data loss. Immutable backup copies protect against ransomware encryption.
BCDR designs that account for South Africa's power instability — UPS integration, generator handover procedures, graceful shutdown and startup sequences, and connectivity failover to LTE/5G.
Recovery plans that are tested — not just documented. Regular DR exercises validate that your recovery objectives can actually be met. Naledzi Technologies runs the tests and provides written results.
Step-by-step runbooks for every recovery scenario. Your IT team knows exactly what to do in a crisis — no guesswork, no delays. Documentation is audit-ready for governance and cyber insurance purposes.
Ongoing monitoring of backup job success rates, replication health and recovery readiness. Monthly reports confirming your BCDR status for management and board reporting.
Unlike generic BCDR solutions designed for stable power environments, every Naledzi Technologies recovery design accounts for load shedding stages 1–8, generator and UPS integration, and the specific ransomware threats prevalent in the South African market. Your business continuity plan has to work in our reality.
Book a free BCDR readiness assessment. Naledzi Technologies will evaluate your current recovery capability, test your backup integrity and give you a clear picture of your true risk exposure.
Manual HR processes waste 30–40% of management time and expose your organisation to Labour Relations Act violations. Naledzi Technologies deploys integrated HR management platforms that automate your people processes, ensure full South African labour law compliance and give leadership real-time workforce intelligence.
When managers spend 40% of their time on HR administration — processing leave forms, reconciling payroll spreadsheets, chasing performance reviews — they are not driving your business forward. Worse, manual processes create compliance exposure under South Africa's Labour Relations Act and Basic Conditions of Employment Act that can result in costly disputes and reputational damage.
Payroll errors affecting staff trust and financial accuracy. Leave management disputes due to inconsistent records. Performance management gaps leading to poor talent decisions. LRA and BCEA compliance violations exposing the organisation to legal action.
Naledzi Technologies implements comprehensive HR management platforms that automate the full employee lifecycle — from onboarding and payroll to performance management and offboarding — within the South African legal framework.
Accurate, automated payroll processing with SARS PAYE, UIF and Skills Levy compliance built in. Eliminate manual calculations and the errors that come with them.
Self-service leave requests and approvals with real-time leave balance visibility. BCEA leave entitlements enforced automatically. Eliminate leave disputes and paper-based forms forever.
Real-time dashboards giving leadership visibility into headcount, turnover, absenteeism, productivity and skills gaps. Make workforce decisions based on data, not gut feel.
Labour Relations Act and Basic Conditions of Employment Act compliance built into every workflow. Disciplinary procedures, grievance management and employment equity tracking all aligned to South African law.
Employee portal allowing staff to access payslips, apply for leave, update personal details and view their performance history — reducing HR helpdesk queries by up to 60%.
Structured performance review cycles, goal setting, 360 feedback and development planning. Build a performance culture that retains your best people and develops your future leaders.
Every Naledzi Technologies HR management solution is aligned to the Labour Relations Act (LRA), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Employment Equity Act, Skills Development Act and POPI Act employee data requirements. Hire, manage and exit employees with complete legal confidence.

Reactive IT support is expensive, unpredictable and disruptive. Naledzi Technologies managed IT services give your organisation proactive monitoring, SLA-backed response times and a dedicated engineering team — all for a predictable monthly investment.
When IT breaks, everything stops. Staff cannot work, clients cannot reach you, and your internal IT team spends all their time firefighting instead of building capability. The hidden cost of reactive IT — lost productivity, emergency call-out fees and the constant uncertainty — is almost always higher than the cost of a proper managed services agreement.
Emergency support, ad-hoc fixes and unplanned hardware replacements create budget uncertainty that makes planning impossible.
Your IT team spends 80% of their time reacting to problems instead of proactively improving systems and supporting business growth.
When critical systems fail, response time without a managed services agreement is measured in hours — not minutes.
Without a managed services partner, IT investments happen reactively rather than as part of a planned programme aligned to business objectives.
Naledzi Technologies managed IT services cover your entire IT environment — proactively monitoring, maintaining and optimising every system so that problems are resolved before they impact your business.
We monitor your entire environment around the clock — servers, network, endpoints and cloud workloads. Most issues are identified and resolved before users are affected.
Every managed services client has a defined SLA. Critical incidents get a 1-hour response commitment. We measure our performance and report on it monthly.
All server, endpoint and application patching managed and applied on a defined schedule — keeping your environment secure and stable without IT team effort.
Detailed monthly reports covering system health, incidents resolved, patches applied, backup status and capacity trends — full visibility for management.
Quarterly IT strategy sessions to ensure your technology investments are planned, budgeted and aligned to your business objectives.
Cybersecurity monitoring, threat response and POPIA compliance oversight included in every managed services agreement.

Unreliable internet kills productivity, undermines cloud investments and disconnects your team from clients and each other. Naledzi Technologies designs and manages connectivity solutions with built-in redundancy, load shedding failover and SLA-backed uptime — built for South Africa's unique challenges.
South Africa's connectivity landscape presents unique challenges that generic international solutions are not designed for. Load shedding disrupts ISP infrastructure. Single-link connectivity is a single point of failure. Remote and multi-site operations require consistent, managed connectivity across diverse geographic environments.
When power goes out, internet connectivity often goes with it — even with UPS in place, your ISP's infrastructure may be affected. Without failover, your business goes dark.
Most South African organisations run on a single internet connection. When that link fails, all cloud services, email, VoIP and remote access fail simultaneously.
Managing connectivity across multiple offices, branches or remote workers creates complexity, inconsistency and security challenges that require a unified managed approach.
Unmanaged bandwidth consumption drives up costs. Without traffic shaping and QoS policies, low-priority traffic can crowd out business-critical applications.
Naledzi Technologies designs, procures and manages connectivity solutions that give your organisation the speed, resilience and security it needs — with one point of accountability.
High-speed fibre connections with SLA-backed uptime sourced from South Africa's leading ISPs — including Vumatel, Openserve, Frogfoot and MetroFibre.
Automatic failover to LTE or 5G when primary connectivity fails — including during load shedding. Your business stays online even when your primary link goes down.
Software-defined WAN aggregating multiple links for maximum availability and performance. Automatic traffic routing ensures critical applications always get bandwidth priority.
Unified network management across all your locations — consistent security policies, centralised monitoring and simplified troubleshooting across your entire estate.
SLA-backed VPN infrastructure giving your remote workforce fast, secure, reliable access to business systems from anywhere in South Africa.
Traffic shaping and QoS policies ensuring business-critical applications always have the bandwidth they need, regardless of overall network load.

Naledzi Technologies is fully committed to compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). As an IT solutions provider handling personal information on behalf of our clients and employees, we treat data protection as a fundamental business obligation — not merely a legal requirement.
Naledzi Technologies has appointed an Information Officer as required by POPIA. The Information Officer is responsible for overseeing our data protection compliance programme, responding to data subject requests and liaising with the Information Regulator. Contact: info@naledzitechnologies.co.za | +27 83 616 0415.
Naledzi Technologies processes personal information in the following categories: client contact information and organisation details for service delivery purposes; employee personal information for employment and payroll purposes; website visitor data for security and analytics purposes; and personal information processed on behalf of clients as an operator under POPIA.
Naledzi Technologies acts as a Responsible Party when processing personal information of our clients, prospects, employees and website visitors for our own purposes. We act as an Operator when processing personal information on behalf of our clients as part of IT service delivery. We have appropriate operator agreements in place.
We implement comprehensive security measures to protect personal information including: encryption of personal data at rest and in transit, role-based access controls limiting data access to authorised personnel, regular security assessments and penetration testing, staff training on data protection obligations, and incident response procedures for data breach notification.
In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to data subjects, Naledzi Technologies will notify affected individuals and the Information Regulator within the timeframes prescribed by POPIA. We maintain an incident response plan specifically for data breach scenarios.
When personal information is transferred outside South Africa (for example, to cloud service providers), Naledzi Technologies ensures that the receiving party provides an adequate level of protection as required by POPIA, through contractual data transfer agreements aligned to POPIA requirements.
Naledzi Technologies respects and facilitates data subject rights under POPIA. To exercise your rights — including access, correction, deletion or objection — please contact our Information Officer. We will respond within the POPIA-prescribed timeframe of 30 days.
